Sharing the Fun

Cake by Annette

I wrote a post last year about the Star Wars cake that my husband and I made for my niece and nephew. The post included instructions on how to make the cake. This week I had two people send me photos of their versions of my cake.  They are so cute that I had to share!

The first two photos show the cake that Annette made for her grandson. She also had lovely writing on the right side of the cake, but I blurred it to maintain his privacy. Here is what she said about it, "I really wanted to have the volcano "erupt" but could only come up with sparklers for it and then gave that idea up as the kids were too close to be safe when lit." You have admire to the creative wheels turning in her head!

The last photo is from Ali. I love the rhythmic pattern she has achieved in the chocolate. She also expanded the "battle field" to be able to feed a lot more people.  Here is what Ali said about her cake, "After looking at hundreds of Star Wars cakes online, my 6-year-old son asked me to make his birthday cake like yours. I just now finished it at 1:30 am (it's the second birthday cake I've made in one day - he has a twin sister!), and I'm really proud of how it turned out. Thanks so much for the inspiration. I used red velvet cake, fudge icing and white icing died orange and covered in Wilton's cake sparkles for the lava. I stacked one round on top of a large sheet cake and cut another round up into smaller rounds and arranged them to make the lava mountain!"

Great job to both of you! and thank you for sharing them! Here is the link to the original post if you want the instruction to try your own version.

Teaser Thursday: Art Deco Inspired Love Birds

Art Deco Love Birds

Last week I shared a few "works in progress" with you in my  "Tease Me Thursday"  post.  The freaky bunny head you saw became Belladonna the Vampire Bunny, my guild challenge entry.

The cute little birds dressed for a 30s style wedding, well, they came together in a sweet little handcrafted wedding cake topper.

Both Belladonna and the Love Birds are available at YoungCreative.

Today's Teaser:

So what are you working on?

Birthday Greetings

Today is my birthday! My belly is full of cupcakes and my Facebook page overflows with well wishes. Plus I got online tonight to find this cute surprise treasury in my honor from Line of Play Sculpt Live. Line is part of the treasury team on the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy. She is a "Treasury Queen" who comes up with the most creative themes. She is especially inspired by song titles. "What's New Pussycat!" is one of my favorites.

Belladonna the Vampire Bunny

Want to take Belladonna home? You can find her at

Ever had a weird idea pop into your head that you can't get out? Belladonna is one of those weird ideas. She is a sweet little bunny with a bad biting habit. She is hand-sculpted from polymer clay and the egg that she caresses is a real chicken egg covered with polymer clay.

March Challenge: Vote and you could win!
Belladonna is one of 13 great entries in the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy March Challenge: Bold Graphics. I am really proud of my entry this month. She is by far the most time-consuming piece that I have ever entered. Just about all of the graphic patterns on this sculpture are done by hand. The only place that I used a stamp is on her skirt. As much as I love her, she is up against some stiff competition. I hope she is a gracious loser!

Vote for your top 3 favorite entries by March 7 and you will be entered to win the prize of your choice from one of sponsoring artists' shops. Vote here:
